Getting around Angers by bus

Visiting Angers without a car is relatively easy and even recommended—thanks to the public transport network.

Buses and trams on the Irigo network serve the entire city and its surrounding area. It is a convenient way to get to various neighborhoods and major tourist attractions.

Here is everything you need to know to get around easily by bus during your stay.

The Irigo network: buses for easy exploration of Angers

The Irigo network serves the entire Angers metropolitan area. It combines three tram lines and 30 bus lines to cover the city center and outlying towns.

A network of lines for all your journeys

The system is built around several types of complementary lines:
  • 4 major bus lines, running on simplified routes during the day, in the evening, and on Sundays;
  • 8 local lines, ideal for reaching residential neighborhoods and less central locations;
  • 5 express lines, designed for quick trips between the area’s major hubs;
  • 13 suburban lines, allowing you to explore neighboring towns and the outer ring towards Maine-et-Loire and the Pays de la Loire region;
  • 1 night line, convenient for returning to your hotel after a night out in the city.

How to plan your bus journey

Before setting off, it is best to check real-time schedules and plan your route using the Irigo app.

Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines, on board buses, at the tourist office, or directly via the mobile app.

You can also get the Angers City Pass (valid for 24, 48, or 72 hours).

Combining bus and tram to make the most of your visit

One of Angers' great advantages is how well the bus and tram systems complement each other.

You can easily combine these two modes of transport to reach must-see attractions. These include the Château d’Angers, Saint-Maurice Cathedral, the Doutre district, and the banks of the Maine River.
